Jacqui Dankworth: Back To You - Saturday 13 March at 8:00 PM

Jacqui Dankworth makes a welcome return to Blackheath Halls for a very special ‘unplugged’ concert.  She will be joined by her award-winning guitarist Chris Allard, performing songs from her new album, Back To You, plus new self-penned material and some favourite standards.

Given her musical pedigree – daughter of Dame Cleo Laine and Sir John Dankworth – it’s no surprise that Jacqui Dankworth is considered to be ‘one of our finest singers regardless of category’ (The Times).  Her third solo album, Back To You (Audacious), was released in September 2009 to critical acclaim, firmly establishing this singer-songwriter extraordinaire as a global star.

Jacqui started her professional career acting with the likes of the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre before taking leading roles in West End musicals.  In 2003 she decided to concentrate on her skills as a singer-songwriter when her first major album, As The Sun Shines Down On Me, was released on Candid Records to a rapturous reception.  This led to numerous appearances on national TV and radio, with Jacqui continuing to make an enormous impression wherever she performs.  From touring with the Brodsky Quartet to wowing discerning audiences at places like Ronnie Scott’s or The Jazz Bakery in Los Angeles, she has been playing to packed houses at international festivals and other major venues worldwide.

As well as receiving rave reviews for her live performances and albums, Jacqui has acquired countless accolades for her appearances on TV and radio, both as performer and presenter.

‘Jacqui Dankworth ... has made it in every sense.  She can do a melancholy ballad and a gospel number with the same relaxed and easy mastery.  Her timings is terrific, she can pack a punch ... a total delight’.  Daily Telegraph.

‘Imaginative, moving, and adventurous with material and technique, Jacqui Dankworth has developed into one of the classiest acts in British jazz singing’.  The Guardian.
