Pere Ubu - Saturday 27 February at 8:00 PM
Unclassifiable, anarchic, revolutionary: Pere Ubu burst upon the scene in 1975 and changed the face of music. For over 30 years they've defined the art of cult; refined the voice of the outsider; and influenced the likes of Joy Division, Pixies, Husker Du, REM, Julian Cope and countless others.
Pere Ubu make a music that is a disorienting mix of mid-western groove rock, ‘found’ sound, analog synthesisers, falling-apart song structures and careening vocals - a mix that has mesmerised critics, musicians and fans for decades.
Tonight Pere Ubu brings to the Halls 'Long Live Pere Ubu!' - The Spectacle: an extraordinary concert version of their theatrical production of Bring Me the Head of Ubu Roi, David Thomas' adaptation of Alfred Jarry's Ubu Roi. Taking the shape of a radio play, the show is steeped in the band's pioneering avant-garage sensibilities. Ambitious, harrowing, hilarious, it's unlike anything they've done before. Typical Ubu.
