Blackheath Halls OperaBlackheath Halls Opera gives the local community an opportunity to take part and see inside a fully staged opera. Approximately 100 singers and instrumentalists from the local community perform alongside 150 local school children, students from Trinity College of Music, dancers from Laban and a cast of professionals to create a production of great energy and originality as well as high artistic worth. The project is led by a fully professional creative team. Trinity College of Music's outreach arm 'Raising the Roof' work with Blackheath Halls to organise the schools' involvement in the project. The schools are given a Teachers' Pack to help them bring the issues raised in the opera into the classroom, and all the schools involved get a series of workshops and rehearsals both in their schools and at Blackheath Halls in the run up to the performances. In 2009 for the first time young people from Charlton School in Greenwich and Greenvale School in Lewisham, two local special schools, took part in the opera. This was a really successful collaboration and groups from these schools will be performing again in our 2010 opera. Community Opera 2010 - The Elixir of LoveThis year, we performed Donizetti's ingenious comedy, The Elixir of Love, with Harry Fehr as Director, Nicholas Jenkins as Musical Director, 5 amazing soloists, and a fantastic choir and orchestra made up of members of the local community and local primary schools. This has been a wonderful success and we have already had some very positive feedback. Please see below for links to reviews.
