A concert by Carne Trust Junior Fellow Chamber Ensemble, Waldstein String Quartet. They will be paired with a performance of Dvorak’s Piano Quintet, with Irina Lyakhovskaya performing side by side with an ensemble of Trinity Laban students.

N.B. There is a change to this evening’s recital the Waldstein String Quartet will no longer be performing Shostakovich’s String Quartet in F Sharp minor No. 7 Op.108 as previously advertised, we apologise for the inconvenience. The concert will now be 1hr 20mins long with a short interval, the bar will remain closed to the public due to another event.

Irina Lyakhovskaya is a highly regarded pianist performing as a soloist, chamber musician and accompanist. She has given many performances at leading international venues including the Southbank Centre, Wigmore Hall, Symphony Hall, Cadogan Hall, Kings Place and St John’s Smith Square, St Petersburg Philharmonic, Smetana Hall and Porto Coliseum and at concert clubs and festivals across the UK. In 2016 – 2020 she was an Artist in Residence at Eastbourne Arts Centre where she performed the complete Beethoven piano sonatas in a cycle of 8 concerts.

As a concerto soloist, she has performed works by Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven, Chopin, Schumann, Grieg, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Skryabin and Rachmaninov. She lives in London and is a faculty member at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. Born in St Petersburg, she studied with Alexander Sandler at the St Petersburg Conservatoire and with John Bingham in London.

As an active chamber musician, Irina performs regularly in recitals with many renowned performers, including cycles of complete violin works by Beethoven, Brahms, Schumann and Schubert. She has also recorded the complete Mozart sonatas with violinist Eleanor Percy for the Melodiya label as well as sonatas by Brahms and Prokofiev for the IMLab label. She is a member of the City Soloists Ensemble and Libre Piano Trio.

The Waldstein Quartet currently hold the Philip Carne Junior Fellowship for a Chamber Ensemble at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. Greta Papa (violin), Daniel Pukach (violin), Natalia Solis Paredes (viola) and Miguel Villeda (cello) formed their quartet at Trinity Laban, and have become an accomplished group, with notable performance at the Wigmore Hall, St James’s Piccadilly and other venues in London. Winners of the Trinity Laban Barbirolli string quartet competition, and finalists at the Carne Trust Chamber Competition 2022, they were also finalists at the Cavatina Intercollegiate Chamber Music competition 2022.
