Festival of Lights | Celebrating Diwali
This October we are excited to present for the very first time, an entire programme of events inspired by Diwali, the 5 day festival of lights celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains worldwide.
Our varied programme of events on offer cater for all ages and tastes and include music, dance workshops, family-friendly craft activities, literary and film events as well as (of course) delicious indian food!
Bringing Bollywood to Blackheath
The fantastically entertaining Bollywood Brass Band form one of the highlights of our weekend on the evening of Saturday 19th October and are set to bring the house down, putting on their vibrant and colourful show for the whole family to enjoy, there is even a Dance Workshop during the day where participants can learn a routine to help open the show.
Diwali for Families
As well as our Bollywood Brass Band event, there are lots of other activities and performances on offer for chlildren both young and old on the Saturday 19th and Sun 20th, including an indian Drumming Workshop and a theatrical performance Same Same...but Different from the award-winning Sonia Sabri Company, celebrating our individuality and diversity and the bonds which connect us all.
Music, Literature and Film
From a screening of the Merchant-Ivory classic, A Passage to India, through to a Diwali Dinner with Indian Dance event hosted by the Friends of Blackheath Halls, a literary talk by Preti Taneja (winner of the 2018 Desmond Elliot Prize for the UK's best debut novel) and a recital by the rising star of the Indian classical and contemporary music scenes, sitarist Jasdeep Singh, there is something for everyone to experience and enjoy.
