This term, join Matthew for a musical journey that starts in America and reaches across the Atlantic! We’ll explore the rich tapestry of American classical music – brimming with bold rhythms, sweeping melodies, and iconic voices, alongside European masters who made their mark stateside.

Expect to encounter a lineup including Gershwin, Copland, Bernstein, Barber, Ives, Roy Harris, and John Adams, to name just a few of the homegrown heroes. But that’s not all we’ll also dive into the American adventures of Dvořák, Stravinsky, and Britten, and discover how their visits shaped the sound of a nation.

From the sultry strains of Summertime to the avant-garde brilliance of modern symphonic voices, this course promises a vibrant, toe-tapping, thought-provoking celebration of transatlantic musical exchange.
