You can get involved in singing at Blackheath Halls in many ways from gospel to opera! You don’t need to have had any previous singing/musical experience or be able to read music – just a passion for singing.
For our Autumn 2024 season, we have various opportunities for singers to get involved, in a wide range of styles of music. Click the links below to find out more and to book onto a project.
Gospel Choir (beginning 14th October 2024) – Take the opportunity to join a vibrant gospel choir this autumn – enjoy singing in a lively and informal environment, meet new friends, and be part of an uplifting gospel music experience. Whether you’re a seasoned gospel singer or have never sung in a choir before, we guarantee you’ll love being part of our choir!
Gospel Choir Advanced Level (beginning 12th November 2024, booking closes 18 October) – For more experienced singers, this course offers a unique opportunity to enhance your singing practice. You’ll work closely with Lena Wright and Bazil Meade, a renowned figure in UK gospel music and founder of the London Community Gospel Choir, often referred to as the ‘the Godfather of UK gospel music.’ Over the course of four sessions, you will focus on learning new repertoire and honing your vocal skills in an intimate, small-group setting.
Holst’s ‘The Planets’ SA choir (beginning 6 November 2024) – We are looking for a small group of soprano and alto singers (20 max) to be part of our performance of Holst’s The Planets conducted by Chris Stark and with our Blackheath Halls Orchestra. The singers will include some Trinity Laban vocal students as mentors. This small group will sing offstage during the Neptune movement. This project would suit more experienced choral singers who wish to develop their skills in a small group setting.
Christmas Concert choir (beginning 1 December 2024) – We are looking for singers to join us to perform at our much-loved Christmas concert. This popular concert features Christmas-themed performances from the Blackheath Halls Orchestra, Youth Choir, and our Blackheath Goes Gospel Choir, along with audience participation! Singers in our Blackheath Halls Christmas Choir will perform their own Christmas song and lead the audience in singing well-known Christmas songs. This opportunity is open to all enthusiastic singers!
A Festive Family Sing-A-Long (1st December 2024) – This is a FREE opportunity to support our fabulous family audience by being part of the onstage choir, singing Christmas classics from “Jingle Bells” to “Winter Wonderland” and more. Wear as much tinsel as possible and your favourite Christmas jumper, and join us on stage to sing your heart out! Families and children welcome to join. Please email Rose Ballantyne to sign up for the choir r.ballantyne@blackheathhalls.com.
