There are many ways in which you can get involved in singing at Blackheath Halls. You don’t need to have had any previous singing/musical experience or be able to read music – just a passion for singing!
Choir projects
You will rehearse a piece as a choir once a week for a few months before putting on a performance, often with our Blackheath Halls Orchestra. We find many people return for most/all of the choir projects, but you can take part in as many as you like.
We would like to invite singers to join the choir for Verdi’s Requiem, to be performed at Blackheath Halls on Sun 23 Apr 2023, conducted by Chris Stark and with professional soloists and our Blackheath Halls Orchestra.
We have two courses for you to choose from:
Verdi Requiem (Long Course) starting Mon 23 Jan 7.30pm
Verdi Requiem (Short Course) for singers who have performed Verdi Requiem before starting Mon 13 Mar 7.30pm
Verdi Requiem Performance Sun 23 Apr, 7.30pm
Musical Theatre Course
Do you love to sing, dance, perform and act? Then our Rain or Shine, Let’s Musical course could be for you! Led by Oliver Payne, chorus members over the course of 10 weeks will learn songs based on the theme or Rain or Shine. Along with Trinity Laban Musical Theatre students, you will also be invited to perform solo, duets and small ensemble pieces all to form part of the showcase finale with live band on Wed 22 Mar, 7.30pm
Rain or Shine, Let’s Musical: Adult Course starting Mon 16 Jan 7.30pm
Rain or Shine, Let’s Musical: Showcase Finale Wed 22 Mar, 7.30pm
There is also another musical theatre course for children ages 8-16 during the Easter Holidays this year:
Rain or Shine, Let’s Musical: Children’s Easter Holiday Course
5 days of singing, dancing, acting and stage craft from 10am-4pm starting Sun 2 Apr
Blackheath Goes Gospel
Blackheath goes Gospel runs annually at Blackheath Halls between September and November, concluding with a concert in our Great Hall. Come and learn gospel songs as a choir with our fantastic leaders, Lena Wright and Abe Hampton.
Take part in some Gospel warm-up videos on our YouTube channel
Every year we produce a fully staged opera, with professional soloists and production team working alongside a fantastic community chorus.
In addition to these projects we often run other singing projects throughout the year.
