Theatre for all generations to enjoy together

Lichfield Garrick Theatre brings its highly praised production of Farm Boy, adapted and directed by Daniel Buckroyd, to Blackheath Halls, for a limited run on Saturday 5 – Sunday 6 April.

Based on the novel by best-selling author Michael Morpurgo, Farm Boy is a heartfelt and beautifully told story that follows a young boy’s visit to his grandfather’s farm in Devon. Through a series of compelling and touching stories, Grandpa recalls the past, including the heartbreak of World War I when his own father was forced to part with his beloved horse, Joey (War Horse). His tales transport audiences back in time, from the trenches of war to the arrival of the first tractor and an unforgettable ploughing match. But Grandpa also has a secret to share — one that will need his grandson’s help to put right.

Following critically acclaimed UK tours and a celebrated run in New York, this enchanting stage adaptation captivates audiences once more. Farm Boy is the poignant and powerful sequel to Morpurgo’s War Horse, weaving together drama, storytelling, and original music to create an unforgettable family-friendly theatrical experience.

A moving tribute to the changing English countryside and the enduring power of stories, Farm Boy is a must-see production that reminds us all of the importance of history, family, and the ties that bind generations together.

‘It sometimes felt as though time had stood still down on the farm, the old Fordson tractor quietly rusting away at the back of the barn, Grandpa tending his chickens, that is, until the summer his grandson came to stay, and the old man started telling stories of what it had been like when he was a boy’
