Rachmaninov Cello Sonata in G minor Op.19
Berniya and Riya Hamie, members of the award-winning Astatine Trio – most recently named BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists for 2025-27 – perform Rachmaninov’s iconic Cello Sonata preceded by a charming work by its dedicatee, Anatoly Brandukov.
Berniya is 23 and currently undertaking postgraduate studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She has won numerous prizes, including the Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe Piano Scholarship in 2024, and performed in prestigious venues both in the UK and internationally. Berniya was selected as a Tabor Piano Ambassador for the Leeds International Piano Competition in 2021, representing the Royal College of Music.
Riya, 20, is currently studying at the Royal Academy of Music, where she is an Elton John Scholar. She has been a prize winner in numerous competitions across the UK and as a soloist has performed concertos by Dvorak, Shostakovich, Elgar, Haydn and Brahms. A passionate orchestral musician, Riya was one of eight LPO Junior Artists for 2020/21, co-principal cellist of NYO 2021/22, and was selected to participate in the Royal Opera House’s Overture orchestral mentoring scheme for 2023/24.
